Our Story

2006 - 2008

The Beginning

After our founding in 2006, our operations quickly expanded with the 2008 acquisition of TCPNS Inc, a small business supporting Army tactical customers at Ft. Monmouth, NJ and the Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) CJ6 at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan. We provided highly skilled telecom and IT Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) throughout Afghanistan.

Early Mission Expansion

We began expanding our customer base by supporting DISA’s Global Gateway Service Desk and providing Operations Gateway Support with our acquisition of SynExi, a small business in the federal space providing support to DISA and the Navy.

We further developed our presence throughout the CENTCOM AOR to include additional network technician and HBSS support, which prepared us for significant growth with the Joint NETOPS Control Center – Afghanistan (JNCC-A), Task Force 236, Task Force Protector, and USMC at Camp Leatherneck.

Two major new prime wins were DISA’s Defense Tactical Communication Systems (DTCS) single-award IDIQ to support Iridium services throughout the CENTCOM AOR, and both Restricted and Unrestricted awards on Army PEO C3T’s Global Tactical Advanced Communications System (GTACS) IDIQ, where we became the most awarded contractor through the life of the vehicle. These early tactical communication contracts established the foundation for our increased capability and mission expertise to support our customers in hazardous locations around the world providing not only skilled technical services but also IT and telecommunications systems.

2013 - 2014

Formative Growth

We increased mission critical operations with formative programs in Afghanistan supporting the JNCC-A, CJOA-A, USFOR-A, and CONUS providing extensive network engineering and other support services to DISA’s Multinational Information System (MNIS), bringing us into the world of coalition operations where we have been heavily integrated since.

We initiated a concerted effort to mature our back-office support functions and strengthen our corporate quality control program by achieving ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 and ISO/IEC 27001:2013, and ISO 9001:2008 certifications.

The Afghanistan US force drawdown decreased our SWA business and prompted a diversification effort for new product and system provision jobs as well as new CONUS and Korean contracts and task orders which expanded our customer base and global footprint.

Strategic Transformation

In December 2015, to better enable our growing support with CENTCOM, SOCOM, and JCSE, Trace opened a new office in Tampa, Florida. This approach transformed the way Trace operated by making us more agile, efficient, and inventive while also being able to increase our support to these key customers. The new space would quickly evolve to include a state-of-the-art Engineering and Integration Facility, as well as a 24 x 7 x 365 Network and Operations Control Center. Trace adapted their business approach to spread into new customer bases and technological capabilities, which spurred a massive innovation expansion.

We continued our growth and expansion by performing on new and more advanced GTACS task orders, including FMS line of sight (LOS) infrastructure upgrades for the Colombian Military and satellite systems for the Iraq Ministry of Defense (MoD).  We became a major GSM-O subcontractor adding IT, TacSatCom, and cybersecurity work including for the newly established DISA/CYBERCOM Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ-DoDIN).  We also won the160th Signal Brigade AITEL support contract for ARCENT support throughout SWA.

Pushing the bounds of our extensive SATCOM experience was the award of DISA’s seven-year Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Internet Connect Program (MWR ICP) to provide Internet Cafes for US service members deployed worldwide, with the initial TO for 19 Cafes in “hot zones” in CENTCOM. This win made Trace a major player in the commercial VSAT marketplace.

Born out of our DISA MNIS work, a significant technology development was Trace’s Virtualized Data Center (VDC) effort, to develop, purchase, integrate, and install several hyperconverged network nodes with multiple virtualized enclaves supporting differing security boundaries for DISA. Building on this engagement, Trace built and delivered the first of its kind VDC as a Service (VDCaaS) in support of AFRICOMs expanding coalition networking infrastructure. With expanded capabilities build on the success of VDCaaS, Trace designed and built a new and innovative product line, M-DRIVE, a first of it’s kind scalable software defined data center designed to optimize SWaP efficiencies without undue additional costs to the warfighter.

2019 - 2022

Technology Focused Modernization

By 2019, strategic contract awards and investments in product development and systems integration shifted Trace’s focus and vision. Our MWR Internet Cafes for deployed US forces established more than 165 terminals in 16 countries on 3 continents. We developed and fielded leading-edge hyperconverged technology to support the US DoD in establishing its Mission Partner Environment (MPE), another step along the path to providing comprehensive coalition information sharing.

We doubled capacity and facility space at both our Tampa and Northern Virginia Headquarters locations in order to accommodate growth from additional awards, particularly the $998 million Mission Partner Environment – Services (MPE-S) contract with the USAF. The new, modern spaces met the expanding technological and service requirements of our customers as well as our increasing research and development (R&D) functions in support of the MPE community.

Trace successfully completed the NSA Lab Based Security Assessment (LBSA) and received a Technical Risk Rating from the NCDSMO of our M-DRIVE product to support multi-tenant network environments for the DoD and their mission partners. It is the only approved solution of its kind and allows users to host multiple active and inactive mission enclaves of a dedicated classification level on the same hyperconverged rack-mountable or ruggedized tactical platform.

New work included the US Space Force EMSS Customer Care contract for DoD and government-wide Iridium product services and product sales, the NORTHCOM DCSS support services with a new Trace facility in Colorado Springs, and a task order to provide extensive All Partner Access Network (APAN) support to over 5,500 active communities of interest around the world.

Global Expansion

In a significant global expansion, we began performance of a major new contract for Global FSR support Services for Army PM Tactical Networks for tactical satcom and other theater communications networks for all regional CCMDs as well as SOCOM and USSF.

We advanced growth of our global footprint by establishing an international entity in Germany to support multiple contracts. Our in-theater facilities support many Department of Defense customers throughout the AoR, including but not limited to the Army, Air Force, EUCOM, and AFRICOM. In such critical and active mission theaters, having a constant presence on the ground forward and at home enables us to be closer to the problem sets our customers are solving on a daily basis.

Our technical expertise continued to grow in support of key Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiatives. By 2023, our innovative software defined data center platform, M-DRIVE, had been integrated into exercises with the Naval Information Warfare Command and at Army Futures Command’s Joint Warfighting Assessment.

By the end of 2024, we made a strategic move by relocating their Headquarters from long-time Northern Virginia to Tampa, Florida. This move puts us closer to some of our primary customers at MacDill AFB.

2025+

Innovation & Efficiency

Our growth throughout the years, due to the dedication and desire of our team to provide the very best for the warfighter, continues progressing in 2025 with the addition of multiple new customers and contracts. These new missions provide opportunities to introduce new and innovative solutions in support of U.S. National Security.

We continue to be dedicated to solving complex national security challenges and enabling decision dominance at the edge. Anywhere. Anytime.
